The Road to Manuel Antonio

At some point a number of years ago, they planted a lot of groves of palm trees for their oil.

We passed groves and groves of them.

A lot of them had ferns growing up the trunks, kind of like the bromiliads that grow in trees.

Plants growing on other plants are called Epiphytes.

There seem to be a lot of Epiphytes here.

More palm groves.

I didn't mean to include this picture because it isn't very good. But I am probably not smart enough to get rid of it without destroying the whole post.

More palm groves.

This is a factory where they process the palm oil.

More palm groves.

This is an interesting old airplane that has been converted into a restaurant. It is an old American cargo plane that has been used to run guns into Nicaragua.

Pasture of brahma cattle. A lot of the cattle here are this breed.

A complex of buildings that appeared never to have been finished.
