Butterflies and Frogs at La Paz Waterfall Garden

Posted by PicasaThe butterflly enclosure is quite an experience, lots of pretty colored butterflies making friends with the people who visit. The butterflies like to eat fruit so there are lots of pieces of cut fruit out for them to enjoy. The second photo shows several large brown butterflies with eye like designs on their wings, eating fruit. The third one is of a pretty blue Morpho that landed on my knee. The blue Morpho is the same type of butterfly as the brown one, just has it's wings open so we are seeing the insides of the wings; the brown is the outside that you see when the wings are closed. It stayed there on my knee for quite a while, notice it has one ragged wing, but that didn't seem to be bothering him. Fourth is another pretty colored butterfly hanging around the cut fruit. Next are a bunch of caterpillars that will eventually turn into butterflies. Then a couple of pretty colored butterflies that seem to be enjoying the flowers. Then there are several shots of tiny tropical frogs. The first one is a red eyed tree frog. You would never know he has red eyes because he is taking a nap. He also has pretty orange hands that of course you can't see in this photo because they are tucked up under him. All the frogs we found of this type were taking their naps, they seem to nap a lot. Then there is a picture of a little green and black frog and two of tiny red frogs with blue legs. These last ones are commonly called blue jean frogs for obvious reasons. You can see the blue legs quite well in the second photo. These little red frogs are only about an inch long. These frogs are all supposed to be poison when found in the wild. But the poison depends on their diet. And when they are fed fruit instead of their usual insect diet, they are not poisonous, just cute and interesing.

Lovely pictures Mom! And thanks for letting us know what they're all called too.
