Arenal

Posted by PicasaThe Arenal Volcano is the most recent to erupt in Costa Rica. Although there hasn't been any activity for several months, it is an impressive sight and a beautiful mountain. The second and third photos are of Lake Arenal which is close to the volcano . It is quite a big lake with boating, canoeing, fishing and other activities available. The next photo is of a bird that is patiently waiting to spot a fish to catch. The next photo is of a banana plantation with the growing bananas all covered with blue plastic. They told us the bananas are covered with the blue plastic to keep the bees away from them. Apparently the bees carry a bacteria that is detrimental to the bananas. Next are several photos of coati mundis. They are animals that resemble raccoons, but have longer tails and longer noses. They are kind of friendly and curious when they think they might get fed. But there are signs telling people not to feed the wild animals, so we just took pictures of them. The last shot is another one of the lake.
