Monte Verde Cloud Forrest with a Guide.

Posted by PicasaSince we had Thursday and Friday off from the Temple, we decided to take advantage of the time and make the trip to the Monde Verde Cloud Forrest which we weren't able to squeeze in when the kids were here. The trip includes quite a bit of rocky road, which by the way jarred loose a battery cable and a spark plug cable on the car. Took a couple of hours to get that fixed because we thought it was only the battery cable and had to figure out that it was 2 different things at the same time before we dared start back over the rocky road. But we had a nice time, stayed at a nice hotel and enjoyed the cool weather for a couple of days. We walked a hanging bridge loop the first afternoon, went on a night tour on which we didn't see much and then in the morning early on Friday went with a guide on a walk through the Monte Verde Cloud Forrest Reserve. Without the guide we wouldn't have seen much. He knew where to look and how to find the elusive Resplendant Quetzal. He told us that this is mating season amongst the birds. So he knew to look where the nesting boxes were. And we found a pair of nesting Quetzals. The first photo is the male in the nesting box. Then next one is of the male sitting on a nearby branch, then one of the male and female sitting near each other on branches. Then the photos with the black around them are ones taken throught the guide's telescope, close ups of the male with his bright red breast and beautiful green feathers. Then you see our guide, Adrian, standing up on a fence to take our photo which you see next to a waterfall. The last ones were also through his telescope of different birds which he found for us to view. I can't remember what they were all called, but it was interesting to see them, some of them were nesting too.

Yhea! You got to go to Monteverde AND see the respendant quetzel! So exciting.

So the road must indeed have been really rough if it shook your car up so much. Glad you were able to fix it and make it on your way. You'll have to call me and tell me more details since I was so intrigued with that place.

What a wonderful adventure you are on.
