This was in a box in Mom and Dad's garage. I'm thinking the monetary value outweighs the sentimental value. Who's childhood bank is it? I'm thinking Katie's, though I'm not sure why. Claim it, I'll deposit it, and get you the $.
I am sure it was mine... Maybe we could split is six ways, or we could save it for a dinner at the family reunion. You're probably right. Probably Katies.
(1) It was collected from one of the kitchen drawers in the PHX house during the move. I remember we cleaned some of the drawers out when your parents were out of town one time and rounded up >$50 in loose change. (2) It was from your dad's closet from the PHX house. I remember having to go into his closet to borrow a tie or use his cool shoe polishing machine, and in addition to 50 suits there was always a small fortune in coins.
What are the dates on the coins and/or bills? That would eliminate the possibility of a long-lost-childhood bank if the dates are too recent.
I'm with Nancy, let's put it in a "going out to dinner fund".
WOW! You found it! Yes, this is mine, Katie! and I even remember what the container is from...Twizzlers! Yes, do cash and deposit it for me if you would. It is amazing how the Lord blesses you when you pay your tithing!
Katie, in the words of a young child I say, "YOU'RE RICH!!" That looks like a lot of coinage to me. I think you should use it for a date night. No paying bills with it allowed. Its like you saved up in your childhood to give yourself a night off and a romantic evening with your sweetie. What good fortune!
I fully intend on exploring the depths of that trove some day, preferably sooner than later. Dad said he'd buy me a scanner if I went through and made digitals of all the documents and pictures they have, but that would be a HUGE undertaking. We'll see.
Interesting to hear all of your comments. But I side with Richard, it's probably all from MY drawers and hidy holes from the Phoenix house and that makes it mine. But I am willing to let Katie have it as she has provided the most definitive identification. And, Ben, I do have some old coins and looked at a book at the library and it didn't seem worth the effort to bother with old coins.
I have the total in hand, and Katie was already sent the money, so NO GUESSING KATIE! How much do you think was in the twizzlers jar? This is excluding foreign coins, amusment park tokens, and any nickels, dimes, or quaters from before 1965, or wheat pennies. There were a couple wheat pennies.
This is so sweet! I'm guessing $32.10. I bet that Emily is very close though. It reminds me of going through my mission stuff and finding money that I had recieved that I sent home. Like $200!

Here are my two theories:

Austin, please sift through the loot and see if there are any pre-1965 quarters or nickels.
what's special about the pre-1965 coins?
...pre-1965 they were made with real silver
There were both some nickels and quarters from before 1965. Not many, but some.

Does this make you wonder what other "treasures" are lurking in mom and dad's garage? It could me loaded with winners!

I remember that container being Katie's too. Lucky duck!
Can we play Guess the Total? I say $34.76.
I have the total in hand, and Katie was already sent the money, so NO GUESSING KATIE!

So. HOW MUCH IS IN IT?
Ready...set...guess.
$52.87
Is it like the price is right, where we can't go over?
$42.73
P.S. I love Twizzlers
Aust, what's the total?
I guess the denomination of those bills makes a difference.

The Breakdown is:
10 Dollar Coins ($10.00)
288 Quarters ($72.00)
428 Dimes ($42.80)
200 Nickels ($10.00)
1244 Pennies ($12.44)
For a grand total of:
$147.24!
Hooray For Katie being such a frugal and fiscally responsible kid!
...I guess I was off by about $100.
