Day Trip to Tapanti National Park

Thursday we had the day off and decided to visit a small national park in the Orosi Valley.
It is the rainy season and we went through heavy rain in San Jose as we headed south east.
But we made it under blue skies by the time we got to Cartago and could see pretty white cloud formations all around us in the distance.
This is one shot of the old cathedral ruins in Cartago with the white fluffy clouds in the background.
The Orosi Valley is a big agricultural area. One of the main crops there is coffee. Most of the coffee bushes are grown under shade trees.
More coffee bushes under the shade trees.
These shade trees appeared to be dead, at least no foliage, but were pretty.
Rio Reventazon which flows out of the Parque Tapanti. There are lots of small rivers, but this is the biggest one.
I thought since the rainy season is upon us that the water level in the river would be higher.
But it was actually quite low, lots of huge boulders. You can tell that sometimes there is a lot of water in this river. It would have taken a lot of water power to move these huge boulders.
I liked this one because it is heart shaped!
More huge boulders.
These are along the edge of the river, in the shade and covered with moss.
This is the bridge we used to cross the river and then continue to the left, up into the mountains and the park.
Our GPS is always warning us of dangerous bridges ahead. I think they really mean that the bridge is narrow and only meant for one lane of traffic, which is usually the case.
But in this case, they really meant, Dangerous Bridge! as it would have been easy to fall through. But we made it across and back safely. The steel structure of the bridge seems to be in good shape, but it could use repaving with the wooden beams.Posted by Picasa
