Heredia

El Fortin was built during the time of 1914 to 1917 but was a piece of military ineptitude. Notice how the gun ports flare out and are wider on the outside than on the inside of the thick wall, so this allowed incoming bullets to get in and made it difficult for the soldiers inside to shoot out because they couldn't angle their guns to aim at the targets.
Heredia is one of the original 4 Spanish settlements here in Costa Rica and is located just east of us on the other side of the InterAmerican highway.
This is a grotto or shrine.
Another one of the few old buildings left. A lot of the older atractive buildings around here have been destroyed by earthquakes over the years.
Found the big doors interesting.
This is a small older church.
Roof on one of the buildings across from the main town plaza.
Laurie and the band stand in the main plaza.
Pigeons on the roof of the bandstand.
Balcony on a building across from the main plaza.
